Your questions answered
Everything you might want to ask.
Grouped by where you are in the decision — from early research through the build to the years after. If your question isn't here, just call and ask.
Before you call
Do you charge for a site visit or quote?
No. The first site visit and the quote that follows are free and come with no obligation. Patrick comes out, walks the plot with you, works out what the ground and the levels actually need, and gives you a clear price for it — whether it's a single patio, a new driveway or a full garden. There's no cost and no pressure to go ahead.
Will I deal with Patrick himself, or a salesperson?
Patrick and the team. This is a family-run firm, not a national chain — Patrick quotes the work and is on site with the team through the job. That's why clients name him personally in the reviews: 'Very happy with the work carried out by Patrick and the team,' 'Patrick and his team did a great job.' When you have a question, you ask the people actually laying your paving.
What areas do you cover?
We're based in Beaconsfield and work right across Buckinghamshire — Gerrards Cross, Marlow, Amersham, the Chalfonts, High Wycombe, Chesham, Bourne End and up to Milton Keynes. For larger driveway and landscaping projects we'll travel further across the county. See our service-area page for the full list.
What surfaces and materials do you work with?
Block paving, tarmac, decorative gravel and shingle for driveways; Indian sandstone and porcelain for patios; and brick, block and natural stone for walls, steps and edgings — plus fencing and turf to finish. On your site visit we'll talk through which surface suits the plot, the look you're after and the budget, and why.
Roughly what should I budget?
It depends on the size, the surface you choose and how much groundwork the base needs — but we'd rather give you a sense than leave you guessing. A gravel drive sits at the more affordable end; a block-paved driveway or an Indian-sandstone patio is a bigger job priced by area and ground conditions; a full garden with clearance, walling, paving and turf is a multi-day project priced accordingly. Every quote is clear and free — see our costs guide for the bands.
During the project
How do I know the paving is built to last, not just to look right?
Because the difference is all in what you can't see. We excavate to depth, build a properly consolidated sub-base, set edgings to hold the paving, and lay to correct falls so water drains away — not on a thin bed of sand that lets a patio rock and lift a few years on. We build in drainage where the ground needs it, too: one client came to us specifically for 'a drainage solution for my driveway'. We'll show you the build-up in the quote so you know what's going in under the surface.
Will you keep the site tidy?
That's one of the things clients single out most. One review reads: 'was very professional from start to finish and left the site very clean and tidy.' A paving job is disruptive by nature, so keeping the site orderly while we're working and clearing it properly at the end is part of doing it right.
How long does a driveway or patio take?
It depends on the scope, but we work quickly and don't leave jobs half-done. One recent driveway was finished 'within 48 hours', and clients regularly note how fast the work is: 'the patio was done super quickly and to a really good standard.' We give you a realistic timescale with your quote and stick to it.
Can you repair or refresh an existing drive or patio?
Yes. We resurface and repair tired tarmac, re-lay lifted or sunken paving, repoint and rebuild damaged brickwork and walling, and refresh existing driveways rather than replacing them wholesale where a repair will do. One client had us in to refresh and update a gravel drive: 'really pleased with how it turned out.'
Can you handle drainage and awkward or sloping plots?
Very much so. Where water pools or the ground slopes, drainage and retaining structure earn their keep — and getting them right is core to what we do. We build in channel and soakaway drainage where the site needs it and construct retaining walls to hold ground and create usable levels, so the finished surface stays true rather than sinking or flooding a few winters on.
After the job
Do you do smaller jobs, or only full driveways?
Both. We take on full driveways and whole-garden landscaping, but we'll also lay a single patio, repair a stretch of tarmac, build a garden wall or put in a set of steps. Plenty of clients start with one job and have us back for the next.
How do I get in touch?
The quickest way is to call Patrick on 01494 311 601, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5pm. You can also email us or send a message on Facebook — a quick photo of the drive, patio or garden is often the fastest way to a useful answer. Then we'll arrange a free site visit at a time that suits you.
Where can I see your work?
Our projects page is full of real driveways, patios, brickwork and gardens from our own Google profile, and we post recent jobs on our Facebook page. Our Google reviews sit at a straight 5.0 stars — worth a read before you decide who to trust with the job.
Still wondering about something?
The quickest way to a straight answer is a quick call, or an email with a photo of the drive, patio or garden. No obligation, no pressure.
